As the days lengthen (Praise God from whom all blessings floooooowwww) and the world awakens, spring invites us to shift our rhythms, open our windows, and embrace the beauty of new beginnings!
Spring Equinox this year falls on Thursday, March 20th, which means we are almost there! Only one more week. If you are itching for it like I am, I pray these suggestions serve you well and pour life into the coming weeks.
Just as the Shire bursts into colorful life with flowers, fresh produce, and plenty of bustling activity, we too can welcome the season with intention. Here are some simple yet cozy ways to live seasonally in spring:
1. Refresh Your Home with Spring Cleaning
Spring is the perfect time to clear out the old and make space for new plans and dreams. Dust off forgotten corners, wash windows to let in the sunshine, and bring fresh air into your home. Consider adding light, airy textiles, swapping out wintery decor for fresh florals, and placing a bouquet of wildflowers or daffodils on the table.
We have been working through my Sweeping the Shire cleaning challenge, but if you didn’t join in time I will be sharing a downloadable PDF soon so you can enjoy it on your own time!
2. Eat with the Season
Spring’s bounty includes crisp greens, asparagus, radishes, and the first strawberries. Celebrate the season by incorporating more fresh produce into your meals! Try baking a lemon cake, making a garden-fresh salad, or enjoying a simple breakfast of toast with honey and butter. If you have space, start an herb garden… chives, mint, and parsley thrive in spring! Before we had a yard I did porch gardening and windowsill herbs, I have even grown lettuce inside with a grow light, the possibilities are endless.
3. Bring the Outdoors In
Nature’s renewal can be reflected inside our homes. Open the windows, fill your space with houseplants, and decorate with natural elements like branches of budding blossoms or bowls of fresh fruit. My mother-in-love tends to buy us gals pots of hyacinth, daffodils, or narcissus and I love having them sit on my counter to bring my kitchen cheer. For my birthday I have often received planters of shamrocks!
A nature table for children (or yourself) with seasonal finds like bird feathers, pressed flowers, or small nests can be a wonderful way to mark the changing seasons.
Bud vases are a special joy to me, I love when my girls pick grape hyacinths and tulips to bring inside! This serves me through Summer as well.

4. Celebrate the Season with Simple Traditions
Create little traditions that mark the arrival of spring! Go for a first barefoot walk in the grass, enjoy tea on the porch as the birds sing, or light a candle at dinner to celebrate the longer days. Host a spring picnic, even if it's just in your backyard, or set up a cozy spot to read outside in the warm afternoon sun. Visit your local botanical gardens and see the springtime blooms.
One of my favorite Spring traditions are visiting Lakeview Cemetery’s annual daffodil hill, where thousands of bulbs bloom each spring!

5. Tune into Nature’s Rhythms
Spring is a time of renewal, so take cues from the world around you. Wake up earlier to enjoy the morning light, listen to the birdsong, and take walks to observe the trees budding and flowers blooming. If you garden, this is the time to prepare the soil and plant seeds, both for the garden and metaphorically for your life.
In many ways, spring is the true new year, a natural time of awakening and fresh beginnings. Use this season to set new goals, refresh your vision, and embrace the energy of growth all around you! What dreams or projects do you want to cultivate this season?

6. Dress For The Season
Spring fashion is all about embracing lightness while staying cozy on cooler days. Opt for soft, breathable fabrics like cotton and linen, floral prints that reflect the beauty of blooming gardens, and flowing skirts or dresses for a whimsical touch. Layering is key! Light sweaters, cardigans, and shawls make it easy to adjust to shifting temperatures.
Consider woven baskets as a seasonal accessory, perfect for market trips or gathering flowers! (Though I tend to use them all year long hehe!) Embracing a wardrobe inspired by the Shire means prioritizing comfort, charm, and practicality, all while celebrating the beauty of the season.
This is a great time to go out and get inspired; shop for an Easter dress or a darling spring addition to your wardrobe!

7. Slow Down and Savor the Beauty
Just as hobbits find joy in the simple pleasures of life, take time to appreciate the small delights of spring, like the scent of rain, the softness of new grass, the sight of a butterfly dancing on the breeze. Keep a journal of seasonal observations, sketch a flower, or simply sit outside and take in the wonder of the world reawakening. Take moments to pause in active presence and truly savor what is around you. Bask in that golden sunshine!
Hobbitcore Springtime Inspirations
Inspired by the beauty of a Shire-like spring, here are a few whimsical ideas to infuse your season with hobbit charm:
Weave a flower crown from wildflowers or garden blooms.
Hang fresh linens outside to dry in the spring breeze.
Gather a picnic basket filled with fresh bread, cheese, and fruit for an outdoor meal, whether your yard or a fun park… invite a friend or someone new you want to get to know better!
Enjoy a quiet afternoon reading poetry or a beloved book under a blooming tree.
Pick berries or forage for edible spring greens like dandelion and chickweed.
Create a cozy bedroom retreat with floral-printed bedding and soft candlelight.
Visit a local market for fresh produce, honey, or homemade goods to support small growers.
Every spring, I love visiting a local nature center for their native plant sale! Using native plants in your garden benefits local pollinators, requires less maintenance, and helps preserve the natural ecosystem, making your outdoor space both beautiful and sustainable.
Spring is a gift, full of renewal, warmth, and gentle reminders of life’s beauty. By embracing its rhythms with simple, intentional steps, we can cultivate homes and hearts that reflect the joy of the season.

I look East, West, North, South, and I do not see Sauron; but I see that Saruman has many descendants. We Hobbits have against them no magic weapons. Yet, my gentlehobbits, I give you this toast: To the Hobbits. May they outlast the Sarumans and see spring again in the trees.
